The Charente

The Charente is a region rich in history, outdoor sporting events, and cultural activity. It is one of the sunniest departments in France, and our location is convenient for day trips to Bordeaux and its vineyards; to Cognac and its distilleries; and to Limoges for its porcelain.
La Rochelle, its islands and the Atlantic coast are an hour and a half away.
In addition, Angoulême hosts five major annual festivals, among them the famous European Cartoon Festival and an antique car show race and rally which brings in the best from all over France and the UK.

Bande Dessinée, the Comics Festival, January
Music Metisses, Music Festival, May
International Festival of Chamber Music in Charente, May
Blues Passion Music Festival, July
Festival du Film Francophone, August
Circuit des Remparts, Antique Car and Rally, September
Piano en Valois, Classical Piano Festival, Oct./ November
Les Gastronomades, Food Festival, November

The Region has Gallo-roman archeological sites to explore, mediaeval churches to see, splendid chateaux to visit, and numerous events sponsored by local communities and organizations. The European Ballooning championships are every two years the last weekend of July; the Domaine Musical de Petignac’s unforgettable ‘Fête de la Musique et du Silence’ is mid-June. Hiking, jogging, and bicycle riding are available on-site. A tennis court is 4 kilometers from us and the Golf de l’Hirondelle in Angouleme is 17 kilometers from us.

We look forward to hosting you during your visit to the Charente
